Hi,

I've been looking at different Web hosts and NetHosted looks among the best so far. I've just got a few questions to help me decide...

1. My hosting, including three domains, is currently with Nildram and I want to move the lot. Can I easily transfer the domains, as well as ordering a fourth one, over to you in one go, and set them up as primary domain + three addons within one Basic Plan account?

2. Is it possible to make my .com/.net WHOIS entries anonymous? (I've seen one customer of yours do this with a .com)

3. It looks like you don't provide Python as standard, but is it an option?

4. Ditto for telnet/shell access

5. Would posting a couple of times over Christmas to thinkbroadband.com qualify for the ADSLguide discount? :-)

6. Are you in any other datacenters apart from BlueSquare?

Many thanks...

Hi,

1. If you wish to host 4 unique sites you will need the Pro Plan, the Basic Plan comes with the initial domain and 1 Addon domain, the Pro Plan offers 3 Addon domains.

2. We offer whois protection on non .uk domains for £6.95/yr.

3. Our shared hosting plans cannot offer Python support, VPS or Dedicated hosting would be required.

4. Same as #3, unfortunately too much of a risk in a shared environment.

5. Yes, this would be fine.

6. We also have some services based in Coreix in Stratford, London. New client accounts would be set up on servers in BSQ though.

If you have any further questions please let us know.

Regards,

Darryl

Hi Darryl, thanks for the reply, that's really useful. Python and shell access would have been nice to have rather than critical, so no problem there.

Looking again, I think I know even less about domain names than I thought I did. If I ditched Nildram, moved my domains to a pure domain name provider and opened a hosting account with you, I assume I'd just somehow point my domains at my NH account? If I wanted to use the domains for email as well, would that be through you or the domain name provider? Aargh.

Basically is there any significant difference between NH doing domains+hosting, and NH doing hosting and another company doing the domains?

(And just for clarification, does the ADSLguide offer include 4 add-on domains?)

Hi,

This is correct, we offer domain registration services but it is not required to use us for registration as well as hosting though it does make domain management slightly easier. You would point the domain nameservers at the ones we give you when you sign up to use the domain on our service.

We provide comprehensive email hosting with all of our web hosting packages also so this would be done through us.

There is no difference in functionality by separating hosting from domain registration.

Finally yes, the ADSLguide offer does include 4 add-on domains.

Regards,

Darryl

I got through most of the order process but at the credit card page noticed the page wasn't secured (was http, not https), so naturally didn't proceed. As I was switching browsers to try again I thought I'd do another round of research and - (sorry) - did find another hoster that seems to fit my needs even better (they do Python). If that doesn't work out, I'll be back for sure, but sorry for the hassle in the meantime!

Hi,

I have just now stepped through our whole order process including entering card details with our payment provider. At no point did the connection stop being fully encrypted and secure! This is something we'd take extremely seriously for obvious reasons if it weren't the case.

No problem with regards to the other host, we wish you luck with them and with your sites!

Thanks,

Andrew

I thought it was odd as the first page said it was a secure connection. This was using Opera 10.10 on Windows btw.

If it helps I just went through the process again and did a screenshot of the page just before the credit card details, showing that Opera hasn't switched on SSL (no yellow padlock icon and http not https). It's at http://www.box.net/shared/eq6vicyh6n[/img]

Hi,

Thanks. I can't reproduce this on Opera 10.5:

Just to note that credit card details are not typed in on the page you mention, they are done at a latter stage directly on the Royal Bank of Scotland site.

Thanks,

Andrew

It's doing the same in IE6 as well, on the credit card page (http://www.box.net/shared/s18q921d93). Maybe it's the link from the special offer page?

Is it because you're accessing it via the Community transfers bar? Try access the specials URL directly to see if that helps.

Thanks,

Andrew

If you click on the specials URL from a forum post you get the no-SSL problem (at least you do from this post which is where I saw it originally: http://community.nethosted.co.uk/t2784.html). If you copy the URL and go to it manually, all is well.

Thank you for confirming this. I will see what I can do to remedy the situation!
