| |
Does anyone know of a simple to use Browser based website content editor that I can apply to the pages of an existing website, which will allow my clients to update site text, change the font (size style and colour) and all them to upload images and, possibly, files?
It also needs to have password protected access so that only authorised users can update the site.
I already use Unify for a number of my client sites, but it doesn't seem to allow easy end user control over the apperance of text.
I've looked at TinyMCE and CKeditor... these both do pretty well what I want, but at the moment, as a stand alone product (rather than within a CMS) I don't see how they can be secured for authorised users only.
Any thoughts or recommendations will be gratefully received
Thanks

I had a similar problem. I thought that going to a full-blown CMS like Drupal and Joomla was a step too far, and WordPress just a blogging tools - although much better on v3.
Then I found MODx , and as I have a certain proficiency in PHP, this seemed exactly what I wanted.
I had some difficulty getting started - although it was really just changing how you look at web pages - but there are some extremely good tutorials.
You start by using your current page as a template, and add things as you go. TinyMCE is available as an extremely easy to add add-on, menus are dynamically generated, and user management is pretty strong. My first page was put up in a couple of hours, and I am now refining the rest of the site.
It uses a MySQL database, but that is no problem on nethosted, and is very easy to update both the core and addons when fixes come out.
Give it a look... _________________ Regards

Hi David,
Thanks, I'll take a look at MODx and see what it's like.

Alan,
Try Revolution rather than Evolution, as that is where all the development work is going now.
There is a good set of tutorials here , as well as the ones on the MODx website.
The MODx documentation is at rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Home _________________ Regards

Hi David,
Thanks for the tutorial links... I think MODx might be the way to go.
