Another vague question, I'm afraid.
I'm a software developer and planning a desktop application that would access a remote database; but I'm no DBA. I want to get an idea of how much maintenance I will need to do myself and what I can expect from your hosting service.
For example, I'm comfortable with the idea of taking back-ups (not that I know how, just yet), I don't need help with design or indexes; but I'm sure there are much deeper issues of database maintenance and tuning which are beyond my ken.
Please can you give me some idea of where your DB hosting service ends and my responsibilities begin? |

Hi,
You have no control over the database software itself. So tuning, updating and running it is all done by us. You can create databases & users and perform all normal end user functions on your databases.
Thanks,

Thanks, that reassures me.
What about usage statistics and capacity? Presumably it's my responsibility to make sure I'm paying for enough space and concurrency; what tools are available for me to do this? |

Hi,
You can track space usage via our control panel for all aspects of your hosting.
Thanks,

If you use MySQL then the phpMyAdmin tool gives an option to "optimise" tables which can be useful for defragmenting the them. Might not really be necessary though. _________________ http://www.alexoria.co.uk • Increasing the value derived from information technology |
