FTP or another Service for online orders?

A friend is getting a e-com site created but he needs a way for his customers to upload picture files from they orders.

Is there a way to use FTP with a link or a button for them to upload files safely to a location?

Is there a cheap service he could look at to use with his site.

Hope this makes some sense.

You'd want to do this with PHP typically, if he's using a CMS then most will have some kind of upload module either built in or available to download. Another consideration is that you'd only want it visible to people that were logged in or had completed an order, but that's more in the realm of site design/planning.
