| |
As my hobby is photography and I occasionally shoot a model for their portfolio, I need to get images to them. My usual method is to burn a DVD and get it into the post.
Now I know that this isn't the quickest method, so I was thinking about using my site to transfer the images. Depending on what's shot, we could be talking about a few hundred megabytes here....
Any advice on the best method for this? _________________ Photographer extra extraordinaire... |

Ian,
Is the problem here the "how" to upload them or the best way to secure them on the site e.g. watermarks? How wise FTP is nice and easy as it will allow for simple drag and drop batch uploads. I'm not familiar with how to watermark images however!
Thanks,

Andrew,
It would be the simple issue of a secure way of allowing only the intended person to download them. I know that I could set up a restricted access page on my site, but that would mean them copying them one by one.
I was thinking of a quicker way of uploading them and for the intended recipient to download them.
Hope that helps? _________________ Photographer extra extraordinaire... |

Ian,
You could zip them up and password protect the zip. They'd then only have one file to download. Password protection is probably a little over the top really, a unique filename and directory indexing off in the folder would suffice.
Thanks,

So if I was to create a password protected zip file and upload it into my Public FTP space, then send them a link, they could simply download it and unzip it with the relevant password?
That sounds good to me.

Ian,
That's correct. You can upload it via FTP to anywhere on your site. You can then change the filename or delete the file to stop any further downloads.
Thanks,

Would they need FTP software to download the file? _________________ Photographer extra extraordinaire... |

Not if you put it somewhere inside your public_html folder. If you do that you can simply supply them with a direct link that they can go to in their web browser e.g. http://yourdomain.com/files.zip
Thanks,
