Hi,

To use Google Apps Gmail on the subdomain mail.example.com you need to create a CNAME record but when I do it says that 'mail' is reserved by the system.

Is there a way round this? The reason I ask is that it would be great for clients if I could provide an end-to-end Gmail solution where they could use their domain name to access emails.

Thanks,

S

Hi,

We can redirect the mail CNAME to Google that's no problem. Which domain is this for? You can send in a ticket if you'd prefer.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

In the first instance it's my site(!) and one other:

mail.stephenwilsondesign.co.uk
mail.equinebackinline.co.uk

If there is a way I can do this myself in cPanel, I'm happy to do so - don't want to keep sending repeat support tickets.

CNAME destination is ghs.google.com btw.

Hi,

You can make this change yourself. Login to WHM and go to the Edit DNS Zone tool. Select the domain in question and alter the CNAME for the mail subdomain to ghs.google.com. (the full stop at the end is important). Make sure that "Automatically Detect Configuration: Auto (recommended)" is selected then click Save.

Thanks,

Andrew

Managed to change equinebackinline.co.uk but my admin account (stephenwilsondesign.co.uk) is not listed so couldn't change that one. Will you need to do this because you're my admin?

Hi,

I've fixed it so you should now be able to see your account via WHM.

Thanks

Andrew

Thanks Andrew,

Should I assume that mail.stephenwilsondesign.co.uk is currently not redirecting to the Google server because it's propagating?

mail.equinebackinline.co.uk worked instantaneously?
