| |
I'm looking to switch hosts for my business as my current host just doesn't seem to be good value these days.
Your basic plan would suit my needs for now but also has greater functionality which I'm hoping to grow into.
Some questions:-
My current host is also who I used to register my domain with. What happens with that? Do you need to become my new registrar? How does that work?
E-mail. What will happen with e-mails? Obviously my mailbox will move to you as my domain is moved ( ? see above). Meanwhile what happens to all the mails others are still going to send to us?
I need to get this sorted as I've just come to the end of my current hosting contract but I'm also in a busy period and don't want customers' e-mails to just disappear.
How long will this take? My domain is a .co.uk one.
Content I'm not too fussed about as I can upload our basic site in a few minutes.

Hi Diolch,
It's optional to transfer your domains to us, you can simply change the nameservers on these if you wish. If you do want to transfer these then the process differs depending on what the TLD of the domains are, for .uk domains you need to change the IPS tag with your registrar and for most other domains you will need to get a transfer code from them.
You will setup your mailbox on your new account and when you transfer the DNS over your emails will start coming to us instead of your old host.
For .uk transfers they are more or less instant (once the tag change is submitted it takes a few seconds), it depends on the speed of your existing registrar to submit the tag change.
Regards,

We've got a googlemail account (who doesn't) can I use that as our e-mail with you and then change it once everything is hunk dory?
'Cause if everything is that quick, I 'm thinking to get it done over this weekend before the madness which is going to be next week here.
If I want to transfer the domain to NetHosted, how much would that be? I only recently renewed it for another two years, I take it that you would take over as registrars for the remainder of that time, or would the clock reset as it were?

Hi,
If you mean to use Googlemail as your email with your own domain via Google apps then it's fine to do this, if you mean something else though could you please explain further so I can let you know.
Transferring .uk domains to us is £5 per domain, we do indeed take over the current registration period so the expiry date would remain the same.

GoogleApps is something for another day...
No, I meant that if I order online I presume you'll need an e-mail address and I'd imagine you'd need to send out settings and such, receipts etc.
If I gave the googlemail address and once everything was up and running, it wouldn't then be a problem to have the proper work e-mail as our point of contact with you? I just don't want anything important disappearing into the ether on a weekend...
Diolch, once again. |

Ah right, that's absolutely fine, you can change the email at any time through your Client Area once signed up.
