Andrew, I don't know how much time you want to spend with this and I realise it isn't really a fundamental part of my package, but after you compiled in the SOAP support last night I still can't get the calendar to sync externally.
I'm trying to use it with Lightning in Thunderbird, and I think it ought to work - there is some stuff on the web that seem to indicate that it should.
I'm setting up the remote calendar to point to
http://www.mydomain.co.uk:2095/horde/rpc.php/kronolith/tmb@mydomain.co.uk.ics
and Lightning tells me the calendar is "momentarily Unavailable".
However, if I stick that URL into a web browser, I get some error messages:

which looks like something missing from the server.
As I said, I'll understand if you can't pursue this, it would just be a nice-to-have!

Trevor,
This may be as simple as enabling WebDAV modules in the cPanel PHP. I am trying this now, if this doesn't work I will open a ticket with cPanel to see what they say.

This doesn't appear to have worked, I will contact cPanel as the message I'm getting relates to SOAP even though it's compiled in.

cPanel have got back to us with a temporary solution. They are keen to see if this is now working for you, so if you could test that'd be great.

No I'm afraid that whatever you or they did hasn't made a lot of difference. It still doesn't connect in the Lightning calendar and I still get the same error message as above when I enter the url above (with mydomain replaced with the appropriate domain name in both places) into my browser. It looks like there's no WebDAV stuff available.
I'm not sure how I can get any more diagnostics from Lightning or Thunderbird.

I think in order to troubleshoot this properly we'll need you to setup a test mailbox that we can pass onto cPanel for them to test with.

Sorry, I'm feeling a bit thick - do you want me to set up a test email account and a calendar on my NetHosted account, or are you going to set up a test account for them on some other system? If it's the former, no problem I can do that, let me know how I can send you the username and password some way that won't show up here.

All the PHP error messages have been fixed now. The problem now lies with the version of Horde being used by cPanel, we're trying to establish and ETA on when a later version will be available that fixes this new problem but I imagine the timeline will be months not days.

Yep, they certainly seem to be from here, I just get a dire warning in my browser about not supplying a password and that the Administrator will be informed, and as you know it doesn't work in Lightning.
Ah well, never mind, it was worth a go, and it'll be good to try again when horde has been upgraded.
Thanks for your efforts, though, it's a refreshing change!
Shall I leave the test account or delete it for now?
