How long for a .co.uk transfer?

I've got a site hosted with someone else with a .co.uk domain. I'm beginning to think that I need a new host. If I was to take out a hosting package with yourselves how long would it take to transfer the domain name? Is it a hassle free process or can it be problematic?
I don't have much of an idea how these things work (as you may have guessed) and have never had cause to move a domain before.

Hi,

To transfer a .com/.net/.org and most other extensions you need to get an EPP transfer code from the existing domain registrar and ask them to unlock the domain. You'll be prompted for this EPP when you order a domain transfer through our system, simply enter it when prompted and the rest of the process is automated.

Transfers typically take a day or two, you can change the nameservers over to ours before the transfer though if you wish, this can take effect quicker.

For a .uk domain transfer a different process is involved, you will need to contact the domain registrar and ask them to change the IPS TAG to NETHOSTED, then simply order the domain transfer through our system. These transfers can happen almost instantly, it depends how quick your existing registrar are at updating the IPS TAG.

Sorry, I didn't notice the topic, for a .co.uk transfer only the latter part of my reply applies! (.co.uk transfers can happen almost instantly)

Do I need to ask them to change the tag before I order a hosting package with you then?

You can request for them to do this at any time either before or after ordering, but the transfer won't be able to complete until the tag has been changed.
