is there any way you can distinguish resellers from natural hosts? I was reading up on Private Nameservers and wondered if there are any tell tale signs of a reseller?

If somebody's offering you your own server, either they aren't a reseller, or they're selling something they can't actually provide.

As a general rule, resellers won't be able to offer high-end hosting services.

Other than that, you'd probably need to do a fair bit of digging to find out.
