| |
Hello,
I'm in the process of starting up my design business and have been researching hosting options extensively. I'm pretty sure I've found what I'm looking for but just have a couple of questions:-
1.Can I install Concrete5 CMS?
http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/background/system_requirements
2.Do I need to do anything with the .com domain I intend to transfer before I request a transfer out from my current provider (They're charging me £11.75 per domain to do so... and I have 14 )? And if so, in what order do I need to do this? There's no continuation of service for the domain as it's just parked at the moment. (I'll be transferring 2 .co.uk domains at a later date though and possibly changing the nameservers on the rest).
Oo and 3. Does the .com I intend to transfer come in under your free domain offer? (the only new domain I'm after at the moment is a .co.uk which I intend to purchase once signed up).
Cheers,
Liam. |

Hi,
Thanks for your interest in NetHosted!
1. Absolutely, we have many clients who use Concrete5 on our service.
2. You should ensure that the .com domain(s) are unlocked at your current provider and that you have access to the admin contacts email address on the domain. In order to start a transfer we will need the EPP code from your existing registrar. It's easier to transfer .uk domains as all that needs to be done by your existing registrar is to update the IPStag on the domains to ours which is: NETHOSTED
3. Transfers aren't included in the free domain offer, however we can waive this this time as long as the .com you put down on the order form is the domain you would like to have as the free domain.
Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,

Cheers Andrew,
I've got the ball rolling with the transfer out and received an automated confirmation from my current host.
Can I place my order on your system yet or will I need the EPP code before I start?
Thanks,
Liam. |

Hi,
You will need the EPP code to place the order for the transfer, EPP codes can be issued more or less instantly though so you should receive this soon.

Cheers Darryl,
If only it were that simple...
I have now received an email from MelbourneIT.com.au which is basically telling me I need to activate my account with them before I can manage my domain. I thought it was odd so I have spoken to support at my ISP (also my host) and they confirmed that they have a domain reseller account with MelbourneIT and that I need to open an account and follow instructions there.
I did get a bit nervous of this in their T+C's...
14. Change in Registrar
Registrant agrees that it can change its Registrar for an existing domain name only in accordance with registry administrator policy. Registrant agrees it may not change its Registrar for a period of sixty (60) days after initial registration of the domain name with Melbourne IT.
(I registered the domain with my ISP 38 days ago and no mention of minimum terms).
I have (tentatively) signed up with MelbourneIT while writing this...
What's the worst that could happen? I'll have to wait longer for my transfer and use a .co.uk in the mean time.
Right then... now I have found a registry key and a domain password (Auth Info). What should the EPP code look like? I suspect it's the latter but thought I'd best check.
Cheers for your help with this.
I've been with the same ISP/host for the last 12yrs so this is the first time I've transferred a domain name.
Thanks,
Liam. |

Liam,
The 60 day policy is actually by the domain registration body ICANN and affects all domains, this is standard and affects every domain registrar.
Typically EPP codes are generated when specifically requested, they don't have a standard format but are just a string of random characters/symbols, usually this would have to be specifically requested from the registrar. Attempting to use the wrong one wouldn't cause any ill effect, just the transfer would need to be resubmitted with the correct EPP code so we can always try this.
If you wish to setup the account and order the domain transfer at a later date that is not a problem, you can set the nameservers at your existing registrar to the NetHosted ones and still use your domain until it is available for transfer to us.

Thanks for your help.
I'm signed up. There's no rush on the domain transfer if it turns out ICANN says ICAN'T just yet. I'll wait and see if that was the EPP I used.
Cheers,
Liam. |
