From browsing your forums, it seems that each of your customers gets a /home/username directory on your server and is in effect a Linux user who can run shell-scripts etc. Is my impression correct?
Assuming it is, let me ask some more questions. Is it possible to interact with a Unix shell remotely (rsh, ssh etc.) or is it only via ftp, e.g. scheduling jobs using cron?
I've seen lots of talk of php scripts but I'd rather avoid learning a whole new language. I'm only planning to host a database, not a website (for now...).
Think I'll start a new thread for my next question! |

Hi,
We don't offer shell access. To access your database you would use remote access tools or the phpPgAdmin tool we provide.
Thanks,

I think my confusion comes from discussions on this forum about creating back-ups using cron jobs. I'd thought cron was a UNIX command but perhaps it's a php command too? Or are users running UNIX cron commands locally which in turn communicate with your server? And if so, how?
I'm aware of phpPgAdmin but had thought it was an interactive tool, rather than a scripting tool; is that right? In your answer above, you mention other 'remote access tools'. What are they? |

Hi,
Cron is a tool that executes commands at specified intervals. Those commands can be quite varied and are created by you.
It's not a scripting tool, it will allow you create backups manually as required though.
I'm not aware but I'm sure that tools that can manipulate remote PostgreSQL databases exist much as they do for MySQL.
Thanks,
