Increasing the line height of the first paragraph & testimonials might improve things there a little. You could also consider fully justifying the text. I understand what you say about it being a "business necessity" but the front page does seem a little spammy. |
Unfortunately clean design and success in search engines seem to be mutually exclusive. We're doing our best to balance things but there's not much point having a clean design that no one can find...
We are working on reducing the text a bit on the front page and will have a look at line heights to see if it helps readability.

Most of my sites are variable width. However, I've always felt like I'm going against the flow when designing them. Fixed width layouts are much simpler to design and you also get the benefit of reliably readable line-widths. I personally would stick to 960 pixels maximum width , but you have to compromise no matter what your choice. I wouldn't want to be the one to convert the NetHosted website to variable width.
All in all I really like the improvements you've made to the site.

We are changing the site to be compatible with 1024x768 resolutions without the need for scrolling. We're not going that small however as from our testing we don't need to.
I'm glad you like it! We're very adverse to the template monster style hosting sites that most companies seem to plump for. Hopefully we've got something much cleaner, faster and aesthetically pleasing here.
Thanks,

Argh, template monster - awful, just awful... You've absolutely got something much better here.
Heh, my testimonial is on the front page - cool! Thought those words sounded strangely familiar... |

Right, so we've been busy in the past few days making various fixes based on the feedback received:
The site now works perfectly in browser windows/resolutions with a width of 1024px on all browsers and platforms that we tested, without any horizontal scrollbars. This was the main criticism of the new design and is now rectified.
The other issue was the busyness/clutter of the front page. We've made some changes here also: We've cleaned up our introductory text giving it an easier to read line height and less bolded words. We've also changed it so our plan buttons don't have text on them unless you mouse over. Replacing the text of our previous design with images instead. To our eyes this makes the front page cleaner and hopefully more usable as well.
As before, feedback is appreciated. Is looking better this time? Is it more functional?
Thanks,

I wouldn't have complained if you'd left the width as it was, but now you've sorted it for 1024 I'm more than happy
The front page is a big improvement as well.
How about making the "tonne of extra (slidey) information" on your hosting plan pages a little more discoverable? Difficult to do while keeping the design clean, but I'm not sure that everyone will realise there is more information there as it is.
Apart from that, I love it

Glad to hear that you like it!
I agree that the expansion on the plan pages wasn't the most obvious, we've now added some larger plus symbols so people shouldn't have a problem working this out I'd hope!

just noticed in IE6 that the Knowledgebase page doesn't line up
http://www.nethosted.co.uk/uk-web-hosting/
the text below "Welcome to our Knowledgebase! " is to the left and not within the 'box'. At a quick guess and look in Notepad I'd go that there is a <div></div> problem. _________________ Getting the hang of it slowly (subject to comment) |

looks okay in IE7 and for IE6, the whole section on the right is at the bottom. _________________ Getting the hang of it slowly (subject to comment) |

Hi,
We are taking a look at the issue you describe. Darryl is normally the coding guy so he'll deal with this at some stage.
Thanks for taking a look!

Is it still on plan for the VPS to be up for begin of the year/January ?
As I may be interested depending on pricing and spec
I do have another question, will the VPS'es be in the UK ? _________________ Regards,

Garry,
Yes we are hopeful that these will be ready at the start of the year (late Jan, early Feb). But we can't be firmer with dates at this point in time.
Yes they will be UK based.
Thanks,

Garry,
They're coming along nicely. Everything is up and running both hardware and software wise. We're stress testing them now and finalising the plans.
Price and specs will be released when they are launched in the not too distant future
Thanks,

still like it Actually I only remembered it as I had to sort out something similar on something I'm working on. IE6 is less forgiving on DIV widths and if it can't fit what you want into what you specify it sticks it below the previous DIV. _________________ Getting the hang of it slowly (subject to comment) |

Hi,
We do know about this however as it does not seem to be a trivial fix and as our percentage of IE6 users is very small we are going to leave this as is. The blog site should still be usable for IE6 users and though not ideal it is working correctly in all other browser's we've tested it on.
Regards,
