Hi,

As you may have noticed we've given the site a bit of a make over!

A few of the improvements we've made:

    - The site is now a standardised width across all pages
    - We've improved the top menu to include more links
    - Added new pages (VPS, new dedicated page and plans)
    - Greatly improved our plan pages with a tonne of extra (slidey) information
    - Added image headers to most pages
    - Added a footer with commonly requested links

We've also fixed a lot of bugs:

    - Long standing typos were discovered and fixed
    - Our favicon has been redesigned and now appears on every page
    - Continuity has been greatly improved: standardising fonts and sizes across our various pages (this is ongoing)
    - The site now displays identically in all browsers
    - A vast amount of other small changes

There are also other things we've been working on (new sections to the site, new bits of software to add value) that we're sure you'll love We will be introducing these as they become ready in the coming months...

Hopefully we've not lost the clean lines and general "NetHosted feel" that you're all used to. Do let us know what you think we've got right and what could do with more work !

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi,

It looks great

I presume the site is design from widescreen monitors as I have to scroll right to see the right side of the page as I have non-widescreen monitor (not for long mid-December new monitor ).

Thought it not an issue as it just the background that can't be seen.

When I saw the new look yesterday I had to check to make sure I was at the right site lol

Garry,

Glad you like it! It is designed to be best viewed on a widescreen display. All content is on screen on 4:3 displays but there will be scrollbars as you mention. Widescreen displays are the industry standard these days so we have designed with this in mind. Our old site looked positively tiny on larger resolutions! Your new monitor will hopefully make the new design even more appealing

Hi Andrew,
I think there's a typo on the reseller hosting page - the price for .co.uk domains is listed /year instead of /2 years.
Impressed to see VPS coming soon (any idea of timescales?) plus the return of dedicated server!
Cheers,

Ah yes, typo fixed. Thanks for finding that!

It's quite hard for us to pin down an exact time scale for the VPS. We're in negotiations with Parallels on price currently. We still need to decide the most appropriate hardware to put this on and formulate the pricing plans. I think the beginning of next year would be a fairly accurate guess.

Thanks,

Andrew

Will the VPS packages will be as "managed" as http://www.nethosted.co.uk/uk-dedicated-servers.php? VPS could be a useful half-way house - I find that Drupal 6 with the standard contrib modules is pretty demanding of the server.

Hi,

We picture them bridging the gap between our reseller offerings and dedicated boxes. So yes, we will offer our usual level of service and support with them.

Thanks,

Andrew

Neat - VPS is interesting. According to the picture on your vps page one user gets the lights and another gets the ventilation. How does this work?

Well whoever gets the power button will probably have the most control...

I haven't had a look here for a while - I never do like to be scrolling when it's not necessary...

Is there not a way to have it adjust to suit ALL monitors ?
I took a look at the style sheet - and there are a lot of "widths" "fixed at pixels" - is there not a way of having these as a % of page / monitor width - so everyone (widescreen or not) sees a page without "unnecessary scrolling" ?

Hi,

There isn't no. We want the pages to look the same layout wise (gaps, width of internal content) in all browsers/resolutions and this is not possible to do for the internal content if we use percentages instead of pixels.

Thanks,

Andrew

Ah well....
BTW - have you by any chance checked it with any of the online validators ?

Can I ask what monitor screen size you have and what resolution you operate in? How long have you had the monitor?

We haven't done so no. I suspect the results won't be pretty. Our priority was getting it to look the same across platforms and browsers. As usual IE made this as difficult as possible but we got there.

Validation may come later.

Thanks,

Andrew
