| |
Hi
Has anyone got any advice on connecting their Mail Box to an Exchange 2010 Server?
I have a locally installed Exchange 2010 Server and wish to use my NetHosted account as an external eMail Gateway. In Exchange parlance, my Net Hosted mailbox is acting as a "Smart Host"
I'm new to Exchange and have followed the setup for creating a Smart Host. I can successfully send eMails from Exchange via my Nethosted SMTP server. However the reverse is not happening, i.e. eMails received at my Net Hosted account are not appearing in my Exchange Mailbox.
Reading through the documentation pertaining to receiving emails:
<Quote>
The smart host's job is to queue inbound SMTP messages. Your Exchange Server would then connect to the smart host at periodic intervals and pull the queued messages using either ETRN or TURN commands
<UnQuote>
So I guess my question comes down to does the NetHosted SMTP server associated with my account, support this behaviour?
As an alternative I could get an app that acts as a POP3 client and download emails that way, but that seems a less elegant way of achieving what I'm after.
TIA for any advice. |

Hi,
It's my understanding that clients who use Exchange with our service tend to use the POP3 collector tool to download new emails to Exchange.
Thanks,

Hi Andrew,
OK.
When you say; "the POP3 collector tool"
Do you mean a specific app - if so which one?
Or do you mean that as a generic term.
From what you have said, I guess my best route would be to sort out using POP3
Thanks |

Hi,
I'm not overly familiar with Exchange, but I can see in the past clients have talked about POP3 Collector tools so I assume either Exchange has it's own built in or they have had to download a 3rd party one.
Thanks,

Exchange 2003 SBS has a POP3 Connector built in, but I think for 2010 you will need some third-party software. If you search the web for "Exchange 2010 POP3 Connector" you should find a few options. _________________ http://theunusualsuspect.com/ |

Andrew / UserFriendly
Just to say I have this working
It turns out SBS 2011 - which is what I am using - DOES have a POP3 Connector.
It's pretty basic, but I only have basic requirements - the mailbox for my NH domain plus mailboxes for 2 or 3 subdomains (Wife & Kids).
There are a couple of commercial apps (EFS and MapiLab) that I might check out later. But they will have to be significantly bettter to justify laying out £50 over £0 cost of the built-in connector.
But for now, I getting email flowing in from NH and I can send out via same.
Thanks for the advice, it has saved me expending a lot of effort on the "officially supported" route of SMTP downloads. |
