Hi, I have a small personal website currently hosted by Heart on a free package.

I'd like to move it to somewhere with more bandwidth, also I wanted to host a blog on the website - can this be done on your 'basic plan'? How long does it take to move over and how do I go about it?

Amanda,

Thanks for your interest in NetHosted!

Our Basic Plan would certainly allow for this. Your site can be up and running on our service within 12 hours or so. This time period is mainly dictated by how long it takes nameserver changes on your domain to propagate around the internet.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi,

Yes that's correct, if you place the order we will then send you a welcome email with details of the nameservers you should be using on your domain in order for them to work on our service.

It does come with a WordPress auto-installer to make getting WordPress up and running a very simple process.

Thanks,

Andrew

Right, ta. This may sound silly but where do I put the nameserver info? Also I have a .com & a .co.uk that 'points' to the .com how do I deal with that?

Hi,

Assuming your domains are both registered with Heart you will need to login to their domain control panel and update the nameservers there.

So you have two domains that need to point to another domain? This can be achieved with "parked domains" on our Basic Plan. If you want the domains to redirect not mirror the content of the main domain this can be achieved using "addon domains" however our Basic Plan comes with one-to-few of these so you would need to upgrade to our Plus Plan in order to redirect both of your domains in this manner.

Thanks,

Andrew

I think I mean 'parked domain' for the .co.uk - it just shows the .com website.

Okay thanks, for the hand-holding I'm going to give it a go!

Hi Andrew, I've ordered and I'm setting the website up (well I think I am!). I can see it when I use the 'temporary' link from the welcome email - does that mean I set it up okay? I deleted the files that were in the public_html folder before I ftp'd the site using Expression Web, was that the right thing to do?

Last question, one of the 'welcome' emails was a credit card 'receipt' which seems to state that the payment has been set up as a continuing payment - something called 'FuturePay' can I cancel this as I prefer to pay when due.

Hi,

Being able to view it via the temporary link is a sure sign of success

Potentially you shouldn't have deleted the cgi-bin, but that can be replicated if it's needed in the future.

Yes we setup payment so it's possible for us to bill you in future for the package. You are free to cancel this at any time. I can swap your billing over to a pay once system for each payment also.

Thanks,

Andrew

Thanks Andrew - would you swap the billing for me, I'm getting overwhelmed with new logins & passwords and the Futurepay thing requires new ones!

Will I need the cgi-bin if I install Wordpress? Oh and thats my next question, where is the wordpress autoinstaller please? I have had a bit of a shufty but I can't see it and well I'm liable to click the wrong thing whilst thinking 'I wonder what that does'!

Hi,

I've cancelled the FuturePay agreement. You will now have to pay manually for any and each future invoice generated.

You won't need the cgi-bin for WordPress. You can install WordPress, and a lot of other apps, via the Installatron tool in cPanel. We encourage you to have a play, just don't break anything

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew, I'm still 'picking'! Could you remove or alter the link to my temporary web url in post 9? Thanks.
