What are NetHosted plans on PHP 5.3?

What are NetHosted plans on PHP 5.3?

As I have a script, that I will be installed which is not made for PHP 5.3, but a new version is in development.

I have heard others have got the script I want to installing working on 5.3.

We've been assessing PHP 5.3 but due to some of the changes and incompatibility with previous scripts we have not reached a final decision on this yet. We will give fair notice before implementing this, as for whether it will be available across all servers or via migration this has not been decided yet.

Hi,

The plan is to definitely implement PHP 5.3 on the next shared server. Once this is in place we can move clients who require PHP 5.3 to this server.

We are not ruling out implementing it on the current crop of shared servers before this but there are no firm timelines for this yet. There are still issues that need to be resolved with existing client's scripts but this may not affect all shared servers and it is something we are investigating.

Just a bit of info re compatibility issues with PHP 5.3 and Modx Evolution platform - one of the big problems arises with magic_quotes being on which injects additional characters into paths, if PHP 5.3 is to be implemented it would be preferable to have magic_quotes disabled. I understand some Joomla! versions are also affected.

Fortunately Modx Revolution, my preferred framework, has been created to work with PHP 5.3 and its is preferable for this particular CMS, but as I have implement several sites on Earth with the current PHP 5.2.16 and my clients are happy I'm quite satisfied too!

magic_quotes has been deprecated in PHP 5.3 so it won't be present.
