Post subject:  E-mail Hosting

I have a client that runs a recruitment consultancy. They are looking for a hosting package that will allow them to send e-mail to candidates. They typically send the e-mail to the candidate as a BCC, and in an average week send approx 10,000 e-mails (they have approx 25000 candidates on their database, so this is the theoretical maximum they could send to in one mail).

Can you tell me if you can offer a hosting package for a simple static webpage, and an SMTP service to handle the above?

What time (of the day) do they send this mail out?

to be honest it can vary. Basically, they receive details for a vacancy (or several) and will crossmatch the requirement with their internal database, which produces a mail list. This can vary from week to week. Some days they don't send any, but they've informed me that on average they send to approx 10000 candidates a week.

If you need more detailed info, I can provide you with a copy of an enquiry they submitted to someone else, which may give you more background?

So all of these people have opted in to this service?

Hi Andrew

I have been told that all of the people have opted to receive vacancy details via e-mail. I'm not entirely sure what the procedures are within the office for removing people if they opt out (I do not work for them, but am acting on their behalf), but I can provide you with contact details of the company if you'd like to discuss this with them. I'm sure they could also send you an example of an e-mail should you wish to confirm that its not SPAM.

Just to give you a bit of background. The company were based at a University campus, and tied in closely with the careers department. However they have since become a private company and have "spun out" as a commercial entity. As a result, they have vacated the Uni premises. Their current ADSL ISP imposes restrictions on bulk email, which is having a commercial impact on them, they are therefore looking to move their e-mail and web hosting to a suitable hosting company.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Dave,

I see - I don't have a problem with them coming onboard here as long as all email is opt-in (which it seems to be!).

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Andrew

Andrew,

Thanks for the excellent pre-sales support, it's very refreshing compared to a lot of the "bigger" ISPs.

Can you suggest which package is most suitable? Basically, their website at the moment is pretty small, static with only a submission form for CVs (although this is likely to be modified at some stage in the next 12-24 months). As I said, their main requirement is the use of your SMTP server. The office is manned by 3 people, so they require 4 pop3 mailboxes. Anti-Virus isn't a problem, as they have desktop AV software.

Many thanks again for your prompt replies.

Cheers

Dave,

Thanks for the kinds words!

It would seem that any of our packages would cater for their needs easily - you can afterall upgrade your package quickly and easily if/when needed!

Hi Andrew

So the Basic Plan would be suitable for use? Is there an additional charge for transferring the domain, what is the charge for renewing when the time comes? Will they be notified when the transfer is complete?

Dave,

There is a £10 charge for transferring .com, .net, .org etc into our care this includes one years extension on the life of the domain. .co.uk is £15 and includes two years extension. The renewal prices are the same.

Yes the Basic plan would be fine to start with I imagine!

Hi Andrew,

I'm going to discuss this with the company shortly. Seems I've overestimated the figures, and it's in fact a maximum of 2500 in one go, not 25000!!

One thing they are concerned about is the possibility of your systems interpreting the bulk e-mail as SPAM and blocking it, can you give me an assurance that this won't be the case?

Andrew,

The company have decided to sign up with you. We'll probably sort that out tommorrow, as they need to backup their current website etc. I've looked at the signup process, and can see it gives DNS servers, at what point is your IPS Tag supplied?

How long does the transfer to you normally take, I can change the DNS and get the Tag changed tomorrow. Does their account with you go live before the transfer takes place eg can I log in and create e-mail addresses etc?

Cheers

Dave
