Right here goes, I have recently bought the reseller package so that I can upload multiple sites, I have never done this before as in the past I have only had individual accounts. I have some quesitons in relation to getting my sites uploaded. 1. I have managed to get one site up and running (though I think this is purely through luck not ability). I am getting confused by the number of files that I see on the file manager page. Do I need all these files? What do they do? What is the simplest process for getting files into the public_html folder? When I upload the files they seem to go into two folders (www & Public_html), why is this? 2. This morning I have tried to upload another test site so that I can practice working with two accounts. So far I have been unable to get the second one 'online'. I am using FTP and connecting to the correct account however when I check the files dont seem to be there. There are lots more questions but Ill leave it at that for now. Regards Julian |

Hi Julian, 1. Any files that are created by default are there for a reason but you may not need them, the _vti named folders are there for compatibility with Frontpage which is a site developing program, if you are not using this you can delete these. The cgi-bin folder is used for storing cgi scripts and this folder should not be deleted even if you are not using it at the moment. The simplest method for getting files in the public_html folder is to use file manager and just navigate to this folder and upload them, however using FTP software will be quicker and it isn't too hard to figure out, I'd recommend something like FileZilla: http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client The www folder isn't actually a folder but simply a shortcut to the public_html folder so it will show the same files, some apps use this path so it makes it easier for them to be compatible. 2. If you provide me the account details via PM that you are using to try this I will have a go myself and see if I can spot an issue. Regards, Darryl |

Darryl Thanks for the prompt reply (though it did take you 9 minutes, your slacking a bit). I am using Dreamweaver so I will get rid of the _vti folders. I am uploading everything through the FTP in dreamweaver. I have put my host directory as public_html, is this correct? Should it be the case that when I upload files to public_html they are visable straight away. As it stands at the moment I am having to move files around to get them to show. Hi, This should be correct, I'm not totally familiar with dreamweaver but looking at your site directory I can see it's uploaded the index.php into the correct place so this should be fine. It should be the case that if you are uploading files to the correct place then they are visible straight away, if you are having to move them then hopefully you can figure out by the moves you are making what the correct path should be. Ok now the uploading is mastered (well sort of), its now onto introducing a contact form on my site. I have been looking at tutorials on youtube and it all looks a bit complicated. I cant find any tutorials on here in relation to it so any help would be very greatfully received. Regards Julian |
