I want to offer live domain searching/purchasing/transferring all from within my site. Is there an alternative to WHMC? I would ideally like to trial free software before committing to the $15 pm.

Is there another way I can offer this service?

Many thanks.

Hi,

There are some alternatives to WHMCS but I could not recommend any personally without experience, I know Box Billing is a free option that you could look into though: http://www.boxbilling.com/

Darryl

Hi Daryll,

Thanks for all the help and info. I'm giving some serious thought to WHMCS. If I decide to adopt this system what is the best way to integrate into my reseller account? Install the software through my reseller cPanel or order directly through the WHMCS website?

If I want to start making domains manageable through my reseller site do you need to make anything happen your end?

Kind Regards,

Will

Will,

WHMCS is intended for use with access to a whole server generally (either VPS or dedicated server), I'm not quite sure of the functionality of it when used with a reseller account or actually if this is possible, it would be best to ask WHMCS support about this and how it would be implemented if possible.

Domains are manageable via WHMCS using direct API calls which means you need to have an account with a registrar that is supported which you can find a list of here: http://docs.whmcs.com/Domain_Registrars

We can provide an eNom reseller account to you if required which can then be used for this purpose.

Regards,

Darryl

Hi Darryl,

I've posted the question to WHMCS so I'll see what they come back with.

I'm building my hosting business, but can't offer customers the ability to search for, manage and purchase domains directly on my site. It's the one function that lets the site down. When you say you can provide me with ENOM reseller account, will this allow me to do what I ask?

I want the site to be as professional and functional as I can when it goes live (as much as one man can do...) and domain management is a big part of that functionality.

Hi,

The eNom account would when used in conjunction with WHMCS yes, if you check the URL I provided previously it shows that it is compatible with eNom.

You'll have to see what WHMCS say regarding using it with a reseller account as I am not sure on this myself.

Regards,

Darryl

Hi Darryl,

WHMSC say yes! Below is what they've told me;

Yes, WHMCS can be used with reseller accounts. WHMCS is a self-hosted application. Please kindly see the following link for the system requirements needed for WHMCS:
http://docs.whmcs.com/System_Requirements

The link gave me the following requirements, does my reseller account meet these?

Windows or Linux OS
PHP Version 5.0.x - 5.4.x (with JSON)
MySQL Version 4.1.x (Strict Mode Disabled)
Curl Support (with SSL)
GD2 Image Library
Ioncube Loaders 4.x or later

Note: PHP Version 5.5 is not supported at this time.

If so then I will be able to go ahead and purchase a license which I believe will give me all the necessary tools for a professional webhosting site.

Will
