Hi,

I am trying (unsuccessfully) to point a clients domain name to his web space in my reseller account. Unfortunately he wants his email hosting to remain where it is so we have attempted to edit the A record at their end without success. What do I need to do with A records to achieve this for web hosting and FTP? I wanted to use Nethosted name servers and change the MX record at this end to point back to their mail server but they don't allow it unfortunately.

Hi Jack,
The main issue is that I don't know what I'm doing and trying to make it up as I go.

I tried the IP address for Venus in the field for the A record with my clients current host. At the same time we changed name servers to Nethosted for other domains my client owns and they propagated quickly while the domains we changed the A records for didn't.

Can you let me know what domain this is for? I'll then lookup the record and see if it's pointing as correctly as it may be due to caching locally of that specific record.

I have checked again and the website is now working (must take a while on the other end) but there's no FTP to connect to. Is this another A record I need to add?

The domain is davidwaller.co.uk

Hi Liam,

You can just use the server name for FTP, you don't need to have a specific FTP record for the domain. Using venus.solardns.com or davidwaller.co.uk as the FTP server name would work.

My bad, I was using ftp.davidwaller.co.uk as per the settings listed in cpanel. It works without the "ftp."
