I have three domains and a number of email addresses set up with Nethosted

My current situation:
Use Thunderbird to send mail via my ISP's mail SMTP server.
Use Thunderbird to receive mail from POP mail servers.
Email is stored on hard-drive of my desktop p.c.

I have now purchased a Synology NAS DS713+. Synology provides a browser interface (I have DSM 5.1-5022 Update 4 installed) to communicate with the NAS. Synology has a number of application packages including Mail Server and Roundcube to browse emails.

What I would like to do:
Not use Thunderbird for email anymore.
Use Synology NAS to automatically download and store mail from the POP mail servers every hour.
Send email through my ISP's mail SMTP server. Store sent mail on the Synology NAS.

Is this possible? I attach a screenshot of the Synology Mail Server SMTP settings page. I haven't got the know-how to complete this.

Do I need a reality check?

Thanks

Hi,

This should indeed be possible provided that your NAS has the required options.

Looking at the provided screenshot, you should enter your ISP's SMTP URL in the "domain name" box and NetHosted's server details on the IMAP/POP3 page:

Incoming Mail Server Port (POP3 SSL): 995
Account Username Format: user+yourdomain.com

One thing to note, you will need to ensure that you're connecting using SSL/TLS for POP3.

Besides that, I can't see why this wouldn't work as you expect. Good luck!

Kind regards,

Brad

Hi,

Great to hear you've got it working!

As I understand it, your NAS most likely has as single Roundcube account (instead of individual ones for each email account) which is why all sent email is stored in the single "sent" folder. Ideally you'd need multiple accounts for individual sent folders - though I'm not sure if this is possible with your NAS. Fingers crossed the new Synology email client has this functionality.

Glad I could somewhat help with this.

Kind regards,

Brad
