I finally got around to launching my site: . Its purpose is to convert scientific units to more tangible (or "sensible") ones, for example 10 cm = 2 AA batteries end to end. The more unique aspect is that you don't need to tell it what sensible unit you want to convert to. The total number of input and output units is small at the moment, and it only does units of distance, but I'll be adding more units and dimensions over time. Comments and suggestions (particularly of new "sensible" units) welcome. :-) |

Hi, A very interesting idea, and a good execution of it also! What are your plans for the site in the long run? One bug I've spotted is that hitting enter causes a 404. Andrew |

Cheers! And thanks for the bug report Andrew; I've fixed that now. I have several ideas in terms of developing the site further, but I don't have grand plans for the long term. Its primary purpose was to teach me JavaScript! Obviously I now need to drum up some traffic, but that's much harder than making the site in the first place... Tips welcome! |

Hey, I really like this idea. The missus is always telling me that she has no idea when I give her what I think is a perfectly usable measurement. The 2 AA battery example sounded really good. I could say that to her and she'd get it. However, I was a little disturbed when my first go came up with this: 3m = 0.97 Albatross wingspans Now, I don't think she'd get that. We are lacking Albatrosses in our area I'm afraid! Good luck with this! |

Haha, yes, I'm aware that some of the units aren't so sensible at the moment. I intend to add lots more over the next few days. In the meantime, I've just updated the site to allow units to be typed, rather than selected from a list. This allows lots of input units to be accepted without cluttering the interface. |
