If you run an online business then as I’m sure you will know the security of your website is of utmost importance. You want your clients to have faith that your web hosting is secure and that they are assured their connection to your website is secure also. This is where an SSL Certificate is useful as it enables encryption of sensitive data that is communicated between your website and the client that is using it. An SSL Certificate creates a private channel which encrypts the data throughout transmission, and as these certificates are issued by trusted sources your clients can be assured that the padlock icon means their data will be secure.

A requirement for installing an SSL Certificate on your domain is that your site is hosted on a dedicated IP address, if you have a reseller hosting account with NetHosted then you would have one or more of these included. These can also be added to shared hosting accounts and additional dedicated IP’s can be added to reseller hosting accounts too, these can be purchased through the Order Account Addons section in your client area. You can order the SSL Certificate at the same time as the IP, or separately again via the Order Account Addons section.

Once you have ordered the certificate you will need to submit some information to us via a support ticket, this information is needed to generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR). The CSR is required to setup an SSL Certificate, and the information that we need is as follows:

Email: This should be a site contact email
Password: This is a new password used to create the SSL certificate
SSL Hostname: This is the site to make the certificate for, usually begins www.
City:
County:
Country (2 letter abbreviation): GB
Company Name:
Company Division:

Once this information has been received and payment made we shall install the SSL Certificate on your web hosting account for you and your site will be secured, showing the padlock icon to visitors which assures them your site is genuine and trustworthy.
