Post subject: Email hosting with you
PostPosted: Sat Jan 17, 2009 8:37 pm
We currently use PlusNet as our ISP at work, and we collect mail from them onto our in-office mail server.

Some people work out of the office most of the time, so we're looking for external hosting for some of our email. We'd envisage using procmail on our in-house mail server to filter some users' mail and bounce some of it back out to your systems so they can pick them up from wherever they are at the time.

If I sign up to your email hosting service, do we get an email address that we can forward stuff to, for example username@nethosted.co.uk, or some such, that would allow us to do what we want? Can we address individual mail boxes in our account that way?

We wouldn't want to transfer all our email hosting to you because for most people it's done in-house and we'd like to keep it that way. That means the more usual transfer of MX records isn't an option here.

Cheers,
Trev

Trev,

Thanks for your interest in NetHosted!

All of our email only packages come with the option to create multiple email addresses whatever@yourdomain.com so yes, this will be no problem on our service.

Hope that helps,

Andrew

Andrew,

Yes, I understand that but the point is I don't want to transfer my domain here, I just want to be able to send email here so it can be picked up.

For example, my PlusNet account can receive email for trev@mydomain.co.uk, and also trev@myaccount.plus.com, they both go into the same mailbox. Is there an account specific email address I can use without transferring my own domain email here, something along the lines of for example trev@myaccount.nethosted.co.uk?

Trev

Trev,

We don't typically no, let me look into the feasibility of this and get back to you.

Thanks,

Andrew

Trev,

I'm afraid we cannot offer this.

Thanks,

Andrew

OK, the easiest solution is to register a new domain name and use that to bounce the emails we want to see externally. I'll set that up soon.

A couple of questions more. I want the 10GB Professional Email package, and I'm going to register a domain name through you. I don't want to host a website or anything else on that domain name.

The signup process is asking if I want to add extra bandwidth, but I can't find out how much bandwidth is included. Or is it that the bandwidth doesn't cover email?

Hi,

That is actually for additional web hosting bandwidth, we have never had a need to limit email bandwidth so you do not need to worry about this, I'll see about getting that option removed from the email sign-up form!

Darryl
