Hi,

I maybe having a blonde moment im not sure, but i do need some support asap.

I have the Premium Web Hosting Package, which supports my domain 'urbansquid.co.uk' but i now have to transfer all my clients sites over too...but im stuck, on the first one.

Basically, how do i add a domain?

Ive followed the video tut, but that doesnt work :(

I need to add 'tfcroofing.co.uk' to host there site, i've changed the settings with the registrar.

I click 'Addon Domains' and type the following:

New Domain Name: - tfcroofing.co.uk
Subdomain/FTP Username: tfcroofing (autofills)
Document Root: public_html/tfcroofing.co.uk (autofills)
Password: blah blah
blah

'Add Domain'

But...it adds the sub-domain ''tfcroofing.urbansquid.co.uk' which i dont want :/

Please advise me somebody! [/list]

Hi there,

The Addon Domains section is the correct place for what you want to do, simply fill out the information as you have done and press the Add Domain button. It will add a subdomain to your account for this too, however if you have now changed the nameservers for tfcroofing.co.uk over to Mercury's nameservers and you've added the domain in Addon Domains, the site will start resolving once the DNS cache has expired for its previous nameservers. This usually updates within a few hours, however in some cases it can take up to 48 hours to begin resolving depending on the ISP.

Hope this helps!
Bret

Hi there,

It creates the sub-domain because it's using a folder in the public_html directory, unfortunately you can't remove this whilst there's an addon domain using it.

I've just tested the site personally and can see it loading on Mercury just fine:

Pinging tfcroofing.co.uk [92.48.127.198]

So everything looks like it's working and loading as expected, it may just be that you accessed the site on the old server before the nameservers were changed and your DNS cache has yet to expire. If there are any other issues, do let us know via our helpdesk (https://secure.nethosted.co.uk/helpdesk/) and we'd be happy to help.

Regards,
Bret

So your saying every single domain i host, i will have a sub-domain on urbansquid.co.uk for? :/

If so as long as nobody but me knows its there then fine, but if it gets picked up by search engines then BOO! :(

Hi there,

Due to the way that cPanel handles this, there will be a subdomain for each Addon Domain. You can go to subdomains and set up redirection so if anyone by chance does try and access the subdomain, they'll be automatically redirected to the main domain name. Unfortunately this is just the way that cPanel handle additional domain names on the account (basically a sub-domain and parked domain combined).

Thanks,
Bret

Hi Bret,

Thanks for clearing that up, and your responses so fast too! That's fine, do you know if Search Engines will pick the sub-domains up?

Hi Simon,

No problem!

In my experience if the subdomain isn't referred to in any way on the site then it should all be fine and not picked up at all. I'm going to send a PM your way with something you could try as a preventative measure too.

Regards,
Bret
