Post subject: Mail problems on mercury
PostPosted: Wed Sep 04, 2013 9:10 am
I sent the following to support(a)nethosted.co.uk from my backup gmail account, but since since the problem is related to email, and I haven't received an automated ticket notification, I'm posting it here, too.

Hi,

There seems to be multiple issues with mail on mercury right now, but I see nothing on the server status page.

1) For the past hour or so I've been getting a "451 Temporary error" when trying to send mail via Thunderbird or Squirrelmail

2) Incoming mail is accepted by mercury, but not delivered, as per the manual SMTP transaction below

I see now that the return address on my backup gmail account is my nethosted address. I just resubmitted the ticket with the gmail address as the return address, just in case, and then when I wanted to post this, saw your update. :rolleyes2:

Please ignore the resent ticket.

Peter,

Can you verify where you expect mail to be delivered at present, is it to our local MX or to a remote MX? I can see there is some issue with the MX configuration at present which is why email for your domain is not being delivered.

Regards,

Darryl

P.S. Just to clarify it's not a wider issue, just an issue with your domain configuration.

Hi,

I think we were working on this at the same time but it's been set with the correct local MX now for delivery to our email server and I can see it's now working again as expected.

Darryl

Hi Darryl

All fixed now, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I have the DNS for my domain hosted elsewhere, so I'd forgotten about those settings in cpanel, because they have no effect except for outgoing mail from mercury, e.g., when I try to send via webmail which is exactly what I was trying to do.

I've fixed the cpanel configuration now so that outgoing mail from Nethosted is routed internally, and all is well.

Thanks very much!

Peter
