Hi

I'm a bit of an amateur and was looking for some advice. I have launched a website called rec2rec.me which is for my recruitment company. The problem is that whilst I am showing up on other sites, if i do a search on google for my site it doesn't show up. The site address is www.rec2rec.me , does anyone have any idea's what I am doing wrong? I have manually submitted the site to Google, bing, yahoo and loads of other sites and included loads of keywords like rec2rec, recruitment Jobs etc but still no joy after 6 months...
Help nobody can find my site

Regards

Phil

Phil.

This is definitely more Darryl's area of expertise but I'd say links and site content are the most important areas to work on in order to rank in Google. I realise your problem right now is that you can't find your site at all in Google. This community gets spidered almost constantly by the Google Bots so if it's simply a case of Google not knowing of your site then that should be remedied shortly.

Thanks,

Andrew

I've done a couple of searches in google of the text on your front page. Nothing is showing up. This suggests to me that google isn't spiddering your site. Have a look in your logs, if the google spider isn't showing up there either, then I would follow the google instructions on getting your site listed. I think this typically takes no more than a day or so.

Honestly the thing that will get your site indexed quickest is getting links to it from other sites that are well indexed. If you can find forums, blogs and other user submittable sites that are relevant to your area and contribute to these with useful comments. Most blogs allow you to enter your site URL which links your name back to your site, and many forums allow signature links to your site.

Of course your contributions must be useful and non-spammy but with a little thought you should be able to find topics that interest you and you can offer your personal take on.

Here are a few useful queries, just enter these into google:

inurl:blog recruitment
inurl:forum recruitment

Regards,

Darryl

Thanks Darryl, maddog, Andrew

Funny thing is I would have thought the link would have been picked up on things like Freeindex.co.uk and careermonster because it shows up in the search just doesn't seem to show my site

I searched Google for site:rec2rec.me and got the message "Your search - site:rec2rec.me - did not match any documents."

If you haven't already, get set up with Google Webmaster Tools - http://www.google.com/webmasters/

You will be able to use their diagnostics to see if there are any "Crawl errors" and probably find advice on how to fix them.

It might take a while for the diagnostic information to show up after you've set it up, so don't give up on it if there's nothing useful immediately.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Richard

May I ask why you chose rec2rec and .me? I do not mean to be personal or funny or anything but when I first saw rec2rec I thought of a record recording, purely because of the two recs. Secondly I wondered why .me? Thirdly I wondered why did they not have recruitment agency somewhere in the name? A .com would get you a lot further.

Rec2Rec and .me do not make you look professional, in my opinion only. This is like using a Hotmail address for business. I notice rec2rec.me.uk is available, perhaps you should now consider taking that for its .uk quality.

Hi SarahP
Take your point reference the name but I wanted a name that could be synonymous in the recruitment industry as we actually recruit staff for recruitment companies which in the industry is known as rec2rec. The reason for .me?? well it was easy to remember. Still cannot find my site as a direct link on google though when i search for www.rec2rec.me. Any knowledge or help would be appreciated

Rgds

No Crawl errors on google webmasters. Site is registered with Norton safesite but they have not looked at it yet. Seems to show up in bing no problem. Any other thoughts from anyone would be great

Hi,

I can see that your site is indexed via a site:rec2rec.me search in google, but it's not showing up in the index yet for a normal search, this is just a typical part of starting off a new site. Google initially after discovering your site may sandbox it, during this time it won't be able to rank in the Google index, this is a process that many new sites go through and can last from days to months. It is done so that sites cannot rank straight away until they have built up some "trust" in Google's eyes via incoming links, the more reputable the sites that these are from in Google's eyes the quicker your site will be lifted from the sandbox and be able to rank.

This is at least my understanding of the process from personal experience, only Google know the exact reasoning and formula's behind this. I would simply recommend to keep building links to your site and quality content and you should be ranking in due course.

Regards,

Darryl

You are in google now:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=&q=%2 ... +the+UK%22

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=&q=%2 ... aracter%22

You now need to do some SEO to get ranked higher.

When I put "rec 2 rec" in google (without quotes) who do I see? rec2rec.co.uk. Suggestions:

1) Advertise in the free classifieds

2) As daryl mentioned, get yourself known in forums (hopefully with a signature link)

3) Put more in your description meta-tags:

currently - Rec2rec.me a rec2rec agency specialising in recruitment jobs

try adding what google visitors are looking for, and not necessarily what its known as in the business. For example:

rec 2 rec recruitment agency in southampton for skilled recruitment professionals and people looking for a well paid job that earns £50,000 a year at 4 hours a day, recruitment vacancies in southampton, recruitment to recruitment, submit your cv to rec2rec, the number one recruitment agency in the uk, etc etc......

4) write a couple of articles on what it is like to be in the rec2rec arena

5) set up a helpline or forum, or some other interaction that gets google spidering (your twitter account currently has 0 followers).

6) I noticed your pages are in .php format......change them to html

7) your meta tags are either missing in some pages (i.e. about us) or the same for each page. Change them so that each page has its own unique meta tags.

8) your cv page contains cv but does not use Curiculum Vitae, that's like using bg instead of Bill Gates.

9) check if your search works! I tried to search for a Manager job in IT and other categories but no jobs available

10) Twitter user name: rec2recme......I just tried rec2rec_agency which was available. So was rec2rec_me. Let's head over to youtube, skype, twitter, facebook, etc to see if you managed to get those user names too...........

Youtube reports that rec2recme is available (unless I be evil and take it). You should snatch that and make an intro video....."Hi, my name is so-and-so and I just want to tell you about the best rec2rec agency in southampton".

Skype - rec2recme is available....I think you are getting the point!

Hi Phil,

It is a general consensus that html and htm are top-level (higher hierarchy) than php. If you read many forums etc throughout the internet, Google and other search engines in general list html and htm pages better (i.e. quicker and/or more favourably) than php. In some cases people find that their php files are not listed.

PHP is a programming language source, meaning it is primarily for scripts/coding as opposed to being an outright html web (text information) page language. For plain text web pages I would use html and css and for a script such as a newsletter signup or membership login I would use php.
