I have a .co.uk domain registered with Namesco so that the family can have e-mail addresses which are not tied to our ISP.

My current ISP (ADSL24) hosts my e-mail at present - I have the domain pointed to ADSL24 nameservers.

I'm considering moving ISP and thought it might be best to have my e-mail hosted totally independently

My questions are as follows,

1) If I set up an account with nethosted, I assume that I simply point my domain to your nameservers instead of ADSL24 nameservers.

2) Am I right in thinking that there will be a virtually seamless transfer once I redirect the nameservers (assuming I change the account setting in my Thunderbird mail client to reflect nethosted requirements)

3) Is there a likelihood that I will encounter any difficulty if/when I change my ISP ( I'm thinking of moving to SKY) as I have read of some people having difficulties with some ISP's not letting them connect to the nethosted smtp server on port 25.

Apologies if these are naive questions - just trying to ensure that I understand what is required to make things painless.

Frank

Frank,

Thanks for your interest in NetHosted!

1) That's correct.

2) Yes, if you have setup your account here first and then created the mailboxes you need the transfer should be as simple as changing the nameservers and updating any email clients with our details. Nameserver changes do take around 6-24 hours to take affect around the whole internet so some of your email may get directed to ADSL24 during this period still.

3) We would recommend using the secure ports for SMTP/POP3 and IMAP and I don't believe any major UK ISP blocks these.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Andrew

Sorry to resurrect this post after so long. I have decided that I would like to pursue hosting my e-mail with nethosted. I just have a couple of questions.

1) If I take out the Starter e-mail package, will this allow me to have four separate mailboxes?

2) In the last reply you said you would recommend using the secure ports for SMTP/POP3 and IMAP - I'm unsure what you mean by this.

Looking forward to joining Nethosted asap.

Frank

Hi Frank,

1) Yes, you can create 5 separate mailboxes on this Starter Email plan.

2) We actually require the use of secure connections to our email service. All this entails in your email client is ticking the "Use SSL" or similar option when setting up your mailboxes there.

Thanks,

Andrew
